Too Much

Ok, so it's been two weeks since I posted..not including the review that I just posted on Perfected.  But I guess it's just because I feel as though I have too much on my plate! Between the girls, the Master's program, full time work and everything in between I just can't seem to keep up.

So, therefore, just a heads up there won't be a set time for when I will be posting blogs, but I will do as much as I can! The next book up is an ARC that has to be read by Sept 2.  So...that's what I am reading at the present moment (I don't have a cover to put up yet).  Hope you will forgive me!!

Perfected

BOOK INFORMATION (Goodreads)

Perfection comes at a price.

As soon as the government passed legislation allowing humans to be genetically engineered and sold as pets, the rich and powerful rushed to own beautiful girls like Ella. Trained from birth to be graceful, demure, and above all, perfect, these “family companions” enter their masters’ homes prepared to live a life of idle luxury.

Ella is happy with her new role as playmate for a congressman’s bubbly young daughter, but she doesn’t expect Penn, the congressman’s handsome and rebellious son. He’s the only person who sees beyond the perfect exterior to the girl within. Falling for him goes against every rule she knows…and the freedom she finds with him is intoxicating.

But when Ella is kidnapped and thrust into the dark underworld lurking beneath her pampered life, she’s faced with an unthinkable choice. Because the only thing more dangerous than staying with Penn’s family is leaving…and if she’s unsuccessful, she’ll face a fate far worse than death.

For fans of Kiera Cass’ Selection series and Lauren DeStefano’s Chemical Garden series, Perfected is a chilling look at what it means to be human, and a stunning celebration of the power of love to set us free, wrapped in a glamorous—and dangerous—bow.

                                                         My Rating:
The thought of this book really intrigued me when I first heard about it on Entangled publishings website.  Breeding people as pets, I mean who wouldn't be interested in something like that.  The very thought of it was just repulsive, but alluring.  How could anyone thing that it was OK to breed people like dogs?!?!

We meet Ella when she was still in The Greenwich Kennels.  She was at the lottery awaiting her "forever" home.  This is when she meets congressman John Kimball and his wife.  She knew there was something different about herself, she knew how she was supposed to act, how she was taught to act, but she still had a fire about her.  The Kimball's didn't take a liking to her at first, well, Penn and the congressman's wife anyhow, Ruby, loved her!  She easily won them over with her loving personality, but she won the congressman over too well...

Though she never did anything deliberate to hurt anyone, she always felt that she was making mistakes, that she wasn't good enough.  She was terrified of being sent through the "red" door.

She ends up falling for Penn, a fight that she wasn't sure she could handle with the congressman as he always had a need to control everything! It wasn't until she was met one night with a choice, except freedom, or stay in the pampered life unwilling and unhappy. What would you choose??

As far as liking the book, it was hard.  The premise behind the book was just so repulsive, but sadly, with the way our society is headed..I can almost see this happening..and well...that scares the crap out of me!  I hated the way she was taught to think, I hated the way she was made to act..I just HATED IT! Now, that being said..I get what Birch was trying to do here.  She wanted us to see the painful truth of what that world would be like should we come to it.  No matter what, humans, regardless of their being "bred" to be pets, still have a brain and therefore still think like the rest of us!

As for the characters, I loathed John Kimball, but I think that was the point.  He kept telling his wife it was all about appearances, but you know what he wanted throughout the book.  He wanted something that was human that he could control, that was his to manipulate, UGH it's just sickening.  Now, at first, I didn't really care for Mrs. Kimball, she was hateful towards Ella and I could never understand why.  It was her husband acting foolish, not her.  But towards the end you had an appreciation for her.  I don't wanna give away too much here, just read it and you'll find out what I mean :)

I adored Ruby.  She was the innocence of the book.  She didn't really comprehend what was taking place and why it wasn't "ok" to have someone as a pet. But it was that innocence that just made her so loving and so..well she reminded me a little of my sisters...maybe that's why I loved her so much ;)

And then there was Penn.  In all honesty, I did like Penn.  He wouldn't be considered a book boyfriend by any stretch of the means...at least for me.  But I did love his personality.  He knew what his dad was, as well as the rest of the congressmen and didn't approve.  What I didn't like was that he was just like a push over when it came to his dad.  And it wasn't until he really started to come out of his shell that I really started to like him.  The wow factor wasn't there, but he was still a good guy.

Perfected was alluring and has it's good qualities.  It really makes you think about what society is coming too. *don't forget about the underground sex trafficking...hint hint*  There are people everywhere that get forced into slavery, whether born into it or not.  And that my friends..that's the evil that we need to attempt to alleviate.  I wish there was more of an ending..but maybe that's the point..maybe...just maybe she's leaving it open for a series!

Day 7 with a Congrats!

So, I just want to give a big CONGRATS to Sophie! She has one a free copy of Legendary by L.H. Nicole! I really hope you love it as much as I did!!  I'll be in touch!

Now, I realize it's been a week since I've posted anything, 9 days whatever same difference, but give me a break.  Working twelve hour night shift, 5 out of 6 days will wear anyone down! Ok, but enough complaining on my part.  Here we go with Day 7....
My guilty pleasure book..DUN DUN DUN!!!

Ok, most of you may or may not know that I love to read YA literature.  I could care less if it's supernatural, medieval, contemporary, as long as it's YA I'm usually all about it.  At 28 years young I still consider myself YA! Don't you??

However, all of that being said...I do enjoy "grown-up" books at times, and yes sometimes even the "grown-up" scenes that come along with it.  Now, I know what you're thinking...you think I'm gonna say 50 shades of grey right? WRONG! I can't stand that book...the writing is awful, the plot was mediocre at best..Anyways, lets not get into the why's I couldn't stand that book and get into the real guilty pleasure book.  I absolutely LOVE

Ok, before we go all huming and hollering about JLA being a Young Adult novelist, lets just say this one is quite..eh hem, steamy! And, furthermore New Adult is so a thing now! HAHA.  What can I say, I can't go older than new adult, otherwise it's too raunchy for me, or it's really boring.  I haven't quite figured out which side of the spectrum I'm on.

Now, with the Lux series, or in this case, a sister novel that is a stand along book aside from the lux series, you are dealing with an alien race.  And the Arums are "dark" bad boys of the two races.  And let me just tell you Hunter...oh boy...I don't know if I could choose between him and Daemon Black! I'd be doing a lot of back and forth that's for sure.

I didn't write a review on this one.  Mainly because I haven't written reviews on most books I've read.  I just started blogging and reviewing recently.  It has been a long while since I have read this one, but I will say, Hunter is arrogant, but oh so swoon worthy and Serena, well she gives him a run for his money.  Next time I read this I will definitely have to write a review on it so I can throw in some steamy quotes and my reactions to them!  So yea, this is my guilty pleasure book,

What's yours?
